The Technologies behind LUX
Low-level light therapy (LLLT)
LLLT emits three different types of light – yellow, blue, and green. Each one can be used separately or combined during a single treatment. LLLT is a monochromatic light that stimulates the activity of fibroblasts resulting in the production of collagen and elastin, while at the same time inhibits the breakdown of existing collagen, which slows the aging process.
LLLT light waves also boost the efficiency of the cells by providing them with additional energy. Specifically, LLLT stimulates the mitochondria, which generate most of the energy necessary for skin cells to function properly. The light energy is stored in a small molecule called ATP, which can be assimilated directly by the cells. Therefore, the light boosts the body’s energy by harnessing its own healing power.
- Green light: Skin lightening and pigmentation reduction
The green LLLT light affects the skin cells that produce melanin or pigment. These cells are located in the deepest part of the epidermis. The light inhibits the production of excess melanin and prevents it from traveling to the skin’s surface. As a result, skin becomes lighter and has a more even tone. Simultaneously, the green light breaks up dark spots (sun/age/freckles) that have formed on the skin’s surface. The spots formed due to the skin producing excess pigmentation (known as hyper-pigmentation). The green light slowly reduces the spots until they clear, and the skin regains an even and bright skin tone.
- Blue light: Treatment of oily skin prone to acne
LLLT (blue) light has been clinically proven to eradicate p.acne (Propionibacterium acne), the bacteria that causes acne. The light also balances sebum production and prevents pores from clogging and oily skin. Treatment with blue light not only reduces acne breakouts and inflammation but also prevents the formation of acne scars.
- Yellow light: Reduces skin redness and UV damage
Yellow light has been shown to effectively treat skin redness by reducing the size of the blood vessels on the face making red coloration on the face less visible.
Yellow light treats rosacea, spider veins, broken capillaries, general skin redness and flushing, and skin irritation. Yellow light has also been shown to reduce sun damage since it stimulates the production of red blood cells that play an important role in skin healing and rejuvenation. Yellow light is also ideal for sensitive skin since it has a calming and soothing effect.
Facial Oxygenation with Vitamin C
Over the past 20 years, facial oxygenation treatments have proven effective in healing and rejuvenating the skin. Professional spa oxygen treatments use a pressure gun to infuse pure oxygen into the facial cells, which boosts the cell’s performance and optimizes efficiency.
LUX creates the same oxygenation effect using Oxygeneo technology, which naturally stimulates the body to oxygenate itself from within. Oxygeneo technology is based on a scientific principle called the Bohr effect, which states that if there is an excess amount of carbon dioxide on the skin, the body counters this by sending oxygen-rich cells to the treatment area.
The LUX treatment creates a carbon dioxide-rich environment on the skin’s surface (formed by a chemical reaction where an effervescent tablet comes into contact with a lubricant gel), and the body immediately sends oxygen-infused cells to the treated area. This oxygenation effect: Revitalizes facial skin cells: All cells need oxygen to function. Unfortunately, facial skin cells, especially mature cells, do not get enough. The reason is that the capillaries often get clogged, and oxygen transfer decreases. This results in paler and more fragile skin. Once the cells do receive the oxygen they need (and even more), functionality increases and the skin regains a more youthful complexion.
- Increased collagen production: Collagen is a protein that provides the skin with its structural strength. As a person matures, the amount of collagen the body produces decreases. As a result, the skin begins to sag, and wrinkles form. Oxygen stimulates the body to create new collagen, which helps the skin to repair itself and slows the signs of aging.
- Faster cell turnover: Skin cells have a limited lifetime. Once they die, they are replaced with new cells. Oxygen plays a critical role in cell regeneration and increases the rate at which new cells grow. Newer cells give the skin a fresher and more youthful appearance.
To further improve the results of facial oxygenation, pure vitamin C is infused into the skin. Vitamin C has been clinically proven to whiten the skin and reduce hyperpigmentation. Vitamin C plays a role in inhibiting the production of the tyrosinase enzyme – responsible for the production of melanin. It is also known for its ability to lighten pigmentation without affecting the rest of the skin.
Many dark spots on the skin are formed due to overexposure to the sun’s damaging UV rays. The reason is that the body produces excess amounts of melanin to absorb the UV rays and protect the rest of the skin from sun damage. As a result, blemishes form, and existing freckles and other darkened skin areas become even darker.
Vitamin C protects the skin from damaging UV rays. Vitamin C is the most prevalent antioxidant in the human skin. However, with age, the level of vitamin C in the skin reduces dramatically. As the concentrations decrease, the skin becomes more vulnerable to sun damage. The LUX treatment replenishes the skin’s vitamin C supply, which protects itself from UV rays and prevents the formation of sunspots.
* It is important to note that not all vitamin C is equally effective. The biologically active form of vitamin C is ascorbic acid, an unstable molecule that rapidly degrades when exposed to light or oxygen, turning from white to yellowish-brown, losing its potency and ability to heal the skin. For this reason, the vitamin C used in LUX is stored within an effervescent tablet, which is sealed until use. The seal protects it from light and oxygen and ensures the purest and most effective form of vitamin C.
In addition to vitamin C, LUX also infuses the skin with vitamin E and hyaluronic acid. Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that helps the skin to protect itself from sun damage, pollution, stress, smoke, unhealthy food, and more. The skin contains more vitamin E than any other nutrient, emphasizing its key role in nourishing and protecting the skin. In addition to anti-aging benefits, vitamin E hydrates the skin and reduces scars. Hyaluronic acid, also known as hyaluronan, is a substance naturally produced by the body. Its primary function is to retain water and can hold 1,000 times its weight in water! Hyaluronic acid plays a major role in keeping tissues moist and well lubricated, resulting in supple skin.
LUX is equipped with a button that activates sonic energy, emitting 6,000 pulsations per minute. Sonic energy further enhances the effects of the LLLT light and vitamin C oxygenation. The pulsations increase the efficiency of the chemical reaction that causes the oxygenation effect, pushing the carbon dioxide that formed on the skin’s surface into the skin while helping the vitamin C, vitamin E, and hyaluronic acid penetrate deeper into the skin. Sonic energy should be used on normal skin and deactivated when treating sensitive skin.
Treatment with the LUX is pleasant and reinvigorating. Once the effervescent tablet is used, the skin might become a little red, but this indicates that the facial oxygenation process is taking place. The LUX can be used as a standalone solution or combined with any facial routine.
