Oxygen Facial for Dry Skin

What is Dry Skin?

Dry skin is characterized by a lack of the appropriate amount of water in the most superficial layer of the skin, the epidermis. The epidermis is normally composed of fat and protein which help prevent skin dehydration. When there’s a deficiency in proteins and/or fat the skin moisture evaporates more easily. As one ages the amounts of natural skin oils and lubricants diminishes, causing dryness in areas such as the face, arms, hands, and particularly lower legs.

Symptoms and Causes of Dry Skin

Dry skin is usually a temporary condition that is related to age, health, and environmental factors. It is characterized by a feeling of tightness, especially after spending time soaked in water, like after bathing or swimming. When the skin is dry it often looks and feels a bit rough, with fine lines or cracks, as well as some form of flaking, peeling or scaling. Some people with dry skin may also experience itching and change in skin coloration such as redness or grayness.

The main causes of dry skin are environmental, such as weather. The skin tends to be the driest when there is low humidity and low temperatures, so it is especially common during winter, when it’s cold and heaters and fireplaces are used, causing reduced humidity. Another common cause of dry skin is the use of harsh soaps and detergents, which are formulated to remove oil, and subsequently strip moisture from the skin.

Although dry skin is usually harmless, if it is not cared for, it may lead to Atopic dermatitis (eczema) and infections in persons over the age of 40. Similarly, as skin becomes dry, it also may become more sensitive and prone to rashes and skin breakdown.

Dry skin is unpleasant and is relatively easy to prevent by using moisturizers, wearing rubber gloves when using harsh cleansers, and covering as much skin as possible in windy or cold weather. It is said that oxygen facials are especially suitable for the treatment of dry, sensitive and mature skin.

Oxygen Facials

An oxygen facial is a non-medical procedure that is gentle and painless and requires no harsh chemical peels. The treatment begins with skin cleansing, exfoliation, and a mild facial steam, before a machine is used to introduce oxygen directly into the skin’s pores. Typically the oxygen is treated with a number of supplements, such as vitamins, that nourish the skin. This infusion of oxygen and vitamins into the skin encourages the growth of new cells as well as collagen, leaving your skin smooth, rejuvenated and glowing.

Oxygen facials are especially effective for hydrating dry skin, as the oxygen increases circulation, improves skin texture, restores cell nourishment and stimulates collagen production.

The one disadvantage of oxygen facials is that their effects don’t usually last very long, and since spa oxygen facials are costly, this could be a hindrance.

NowMi Oxygen Facial Treatment

The NowMi oxygen facial treatment is the perfect solution for caring for dry skin, as it further improves on all the benefits of a spa oxygen facial treatment, while it can be performed at home at a much lower cost.

The NowMi Pro sonic device is the ultimate skin care solution.  It enables you to deeply cleans your skin on a daily basis and also perform weekly oxygenation treatments that nourish and rejuvenate the skin.

The weekly oxygenation facials infuse the skin with pure vitamin C, vitamin E and hyaluronic acid.  Hyaluronic acid, also known as hyaluronan, is a substance naturally produced by the body. Its primary function is to retain water and it can hold 1,000 times its weight in water!  Hyaluronic acid therefore plays a major role in keeping tissues moist and well lubricated and helps prevent dry skin.

In addition, vitamin C and vitamin E are infused into the skin.  The vitamins are known for their antioxidant qualities and they help the skin combat skin dryness caused by overexposure to UV rays and other damaging extrinsic factors.

What sets the NowMi treatment apart from traditional oxygenation treatments is the fact that the NowMi treatment stimulates the skin to oxygenate itself from within.  This is different from traditional oxygenation treatments in which the oxygen is applied externally onto the skin.

The NowMi treatment stimulates a natural physiological response called the ‘Bohr Effect’.   The Bohr Effect states that when the body is exposed to high concentrations of Carbon Dioxide (CO2), it responds by sending oxygen (O2) rich blood cells to the area.  So, during the NowMi treatment, when the effervescent tablet comes into contact with the nourishing gel, a chemical reaction occurs which creates high concentrations of minute Carbon Dioxide (CO2) bubbles on the skin’s surface.  The body then responds by sending oxygen (O2) rich blood cells to the facial skin. As a result of this natural oxygenation process, the capillary flow in the skin increases which optimizes the penetration and absorption of the nutrients.

In this way the NowMi oxygen facial treatment has all the benefits of a traditional oxygen facial, with the advantage of maximizing effects by using the body’s natural ability to oxygenate.

The NowMi Device – The Ultimate Solution for Dry Skin

The NowMi treatment is the perfect solution for dry skin since it infuses the skin with hyaluronic acid, vitamin C and vitamin E.  These ingredients help the skin stay hydrated and balanced.  Since it uses a natural oxygenation process, the ingredients are optimally absorbed by the skin, thus ensuring the highest level of clinical efficacy.

When compared to traditional oxygenation treatments, the NowMi treatment has several benefits- first, it can be performed in the comfort of your home, which makes it highly convenient.  Second, it costs a fraction of the price of its spa equivalent and third, it takes only 5 minutes, which saves you valuable time.

Anti-Aging Oxygen Facial

Although aging is a natural human process, it is expressed differently in different people, as well as in different organs, tissues and cells of the body. While the signs of aging of internal organs are hidden from the eye, the signs of aging skin are evident and clear for all to see.

Statistics clearly show that the US population is becoming older. As of November 8, 2018, the United States is estimated to have a population of 328,953,020 people. The median age of the total population is 38.1; the male median age is 36.8; the female median age is 39.4. Aging starts as early as age 25, whereas 68% of the US population are older than 25 years old and nearly 30% are older than 55 years old.

It is no wonder that the demands for anti-aging skin therapies is rapidly increasing. One of the best treatments to address this issue is anti-aging oxygen facial.

Facial skin aging

Facial skin aging results from internal and external processes. Internal skin aging is influenced by genetics, slower cell metabolism and hormonal changes. External skin aging processes are influenced by exposure to sun light, pollution, ionizing radiation, chemicals and toxins. Together these factors lead to the appearance of aging skin, especially on the facial skin area that is exposed to the sun. The skin becomes thin, wrinkled and dry. Aged skin typically shows spotted, deep wrinkles, laxity, dullness and roughness.

The main purpose of any anti-aging skin therapy is to achieve a healthy, smooth, glowing skin, free of age-spots. The outermost skin layer, the stratum corneum, is an important protector against premature facial skin aging. It protects the skin from dehydration, penetration of various bacteria, allergens, irritants, reactive oxygen species and radiation. In the dermis layer, it is important to stop the degradation of the skin’s primary structural components: collagen and elastin, as well as reduce inflammation by topical antioxidants.

What is anti-aging oxygen facial?

Anti-aging oxygen facials infuse the skin with active ingredients (vitamin C, E, and hyaluronic acid) and at the same time elevate the level of available oxygen to the skin cells. It is important to understand that without oxygen the skin cells are unable to fully use the active ingredients. Its like infusing more gas into a car engine without increasing the inlet flow of oxygen. Elevating the oxygen level in the skin is done either externally or internally. Externally, a pressured oxygen gas is sprayed on the skin, typically performed in a clinic, due to the large and expensive machine that is required. Internal skin oxygenation uses the body’s own biological mechanism, through using the scientifically and clinically proven Bohr Effect. In simple words, by creating an environment rich in CO2 on the skin, the body sends more oxygen to the skin in order to balance the extra CO2 levels.

The most important antioxidants are vitamin C and E. The two vitamins have a small molecular size enabling them to enter the skin quite easily. Vitamin C anti-aging effects in the skin have been proven to increase collagen production. The combined antioxidant effect of the combination of vitamins C and E is greater than when vitamin C is used alone. Vitamin E is soluble in fat. The anti-aging effect is reached by smoothing the skin and increasing the ability of the stratum corneum to protect the skin from dehydration. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a clear substance that is naturally produced by the body. Its main function is to retain water to keep the skin well hydrated. It has been proven that HA also plays an important role in wound healing.

How does the NowMi anti-aging oxygen facial work?

The recommended use of the NowMi anti-aging oxygen facial treatment is once a week. The treatment provides 4 simultaneous actions and takes only 5 minutes to do. The 4-in-1 actions are: exfoliation, oxygenation, nourishment, and skin protection.

Exfoliation

The effervescent tablet, which contains high concentration pure vitamin C, gently exfoliates the skin and removes unwanted dead cells, smooths the skin, and allows for the optimal infusion of active ingredients into the epidermis.

Oxygenation

The interaction between the gel and the vitamin C effervescent tablet creates micro CO2 bubbles that activate a natural physiological response called the Bohr effect.  The effect stimulates an oxygen rich environment in the treatment area.

Nourishment

The NowMi treatment nourishes the skin with pure vitamin C, vitamin E and Hyaluronic acid. Vitamin C has been clinically proven as an anti-aging and anti-inflammatory agent, as well as an anti-pigmentary agent. The vitamin E further enhances the effectiveness of the vitamin C, and combined with the Hyaluronic acid, helps the skin maintain its moisture and firmness.

Protection

Vitamin C is the most prevalent antioxidant in the human skin and, unfortunately, its quantity rapidly decreases with age.  By replenishing the skin’s lost vitamin C supply, it is able to better protect against UV rays and other extrinsic factors such as pollution and smoking which damage and age the skin.

Is NowMi treatment clinically proven?

Yes, The NowMi treatment was tested in a clinical study performed by a third party GLP certified laboratory.

  • Immediate results were seen after the first treatment.
  • Compared to baseline, there was a 25.9% increase in facial skin smoothness after 6 weekly treatments, meaning that the facial skin looked younger by approximately 12 years.

VITAMIN C OXYGEN FACIALS: ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW

In today’s fast-paced lifestyle, it is hard to keep the skin healthy and rejuvenated. Many women wear makeup all day in an environment that is highly polluted, overexpose their skin to damaging sun rays, and live with high levels of daily stress. All these factors (and more) take their toll on our skin.   Lack of oxygen in our skin is one of the main reasons for dull, unhealthy and poor complexion, which is where an at home vitamin C oxygen facial comes into play.

What is a vitamin C oxygen facial?

A vitamin C oxygen facial combines the benefits of a traditional oxygen facial with the advantages of a vitamin C facial. A traditional oxygen facial is typically done in a SPA. It is a very expensive facial treatment and can take up to two hours.  An oxygen facial treatment in a SPA uses a machine that sprays high pressure and highly concentrated oxygen onto the epidermis. The oxygen is used to treat  visible signs of aging, cleanse the pores, kill acne bacteria and stimulate collagen growth.  The treatment is favored by many celebs, and stars such as Madonna, Kim Kardashian, Olivia Coleman and even Justin Timberlake swear by them and even reportedly travel with their own oxygen facial machine.

See below how vitamin C oxygen facial works and the device you can use at home to save you time and money.

Is oxygen vital for your skin?

Yes. Oxygen is essential for every living cell and lack of oxygen eventually causes cell death. All biological processes use oxygen, and in the skin, oxygen is vital for the health and maintenance of the skin’s cells and plays a critical role in regenerating collagen and elastin. Collagen and elastin are the two major proteins responsible for the integrity and structure of our skin. As we age,  our skin loses up to 2% of collagen every year which results in the formation of fine lines and wrinkles. However, when plenty of oxygen is available to the skin it boosts circulation, stimulates cell turnover and immediately results in a glowing and revitalized complexion.

Is vitamin C vital to your skin?

Yes. Facial skin has very high levels of vitamin C since the vitamin protects it from free radicals that damage it and cause premature aging. Unfortunately, people cannot synthesize vitamin C and need to consume it orally or topically.

The primary issue with vitamin C is that its levels significantly decrease with age, and more mature skin has about 70% less vitamin C than young skin. As a result of the decrease, mature skin is more vulnerable to extrinsic factors such as UV rays, pollution and smoke and wrinkles and dark spots form with greater ease.

Traditional oxygen facials vs. skin oxygenation from within

In traditional oxygen facials high-pressure oxygen gas is sprayed on the skin from the outside. The oxygen aims to increase the levels of oxygen to the outermost layer of the skin-  the epidermis.

Conversely, when the  skin is oxygenated “from within”, a natural biological process from within the body is used  to bring more blood and oxygen to all of the layers of the skin. In my previous company, Pollogen, I used the well documented influence of CO2 bath treatments known as the “Nauheim bath” treatments to invent the first spa treatment, that oxygenates the skin from within [see references 1-3].  This technology was coined “OxyGeneo” and was quickly adopted by the spa industry.  However,  in a customer survey we conducted, we discovered that only a few customers could afford the high cost of a full treatment course that included 6 weekly treatments. Most of the customers performed  one or two treatments, mostly before important events like a wedding. This led me, in my new company, to invent and develop the NowMi at home vitamin C oxygen facial.  Using the NowMi treatment, you can enjoy all of the benefits of a powerful oxygen facial that infuses pure vitamin C into your skin, in the comfort of your own home and at a much more attractive price than its spa equivalent.

The NowMi Pro weekly treatment

The NowMi Pro weekly treatment uses a vitamin C effervescent tablet combined with a lubricant gel. When these two ingredients are mixed, they create a chemical reaction that forms millions of CO2 micro-bubbles on the surface of the facial skin.

The NowMi effervescent tablet contains 50% vitamin C, citric acid and sodium bicarbonate. During treatment, it is dissolved by the lubricant gel, and salt, CO2 and water are released.

When the body is bombarded with high levels of CO2 is responds by sending oxygen rich blood cells to the treatment area. This response is called the Bohr effect and has been scientifically proven. The body releases oxygen from the hemoglobin and ‘oxygenates itself from within’. As a result of the oxygenation, there is a marked increase in blood flow within the capillaries and the cells are able to optimally absorb the active ingredients.

The weekly NowMi Pro facial treatment performs several actions on the skin- it exfoliates it, oxygenates it, and infuses it with vitamin C, vitamin E and hyaluronic acid which results in glowing healthy skin, and protects it with powerful antioxidants.

NowMi Pro daily treatment

The NowMi Pro sonic device has super soft silicone bristles for your daily facial cleansing. You are able to increase/decrease the sonic vibrations using the little + or – . This kit also comes with a cleansing gel loaded with antioxidants and minerals such as vitamins E, B3, B5 and Dead Sea minerals. The NowMi Pro device thoroughly cleanses the skin and removes all unwanted makeup, dirt and oil.

Furthermore, the NowMi Pro device emits 6,000 sonic pulses per minute. The sonic energy helps the cleansing gel to penetrate and deeply clean all of the pores. Research has shown that cleansing the skin with sonic energy is up to 6 times for effective than hand washing.

Advantages of oxygen facials that infuse vitamin C into the skin

Introduction

Vitamin C is a wonder ingredient in facial care, improving the texture of your skin by strengthening, soothing and softening it.  It has been proven as a powerful antioxidant and skin protector which supports your body in neutralizing free-radicals.  Free radicals  are responsible for premature skin aging and the early formation of wrinkles and age spots.  By regularly having oxygen facials that infuse vitamin C into the skin, you can limit the effects of the free-radicals and enjoy healthier and younger looking skin.

Advantages of using Vitamin C for Facial Skin Care

Vitamin C has been established as a vital ingredient in skin care, due to its diverse and profound effects on the skin. It is the most prevalent antioxidant in the human skin, and as such it protects and strengthens it.

Vitamin C’s antioxidant properties help prevent UV damage. When your skin is exposed to ultraviolet rays (UV) it promotes the formation of free radicals in the body, which damage cellular DNA and cause collagen degradation as well as the reduction of collagen production. Studies have shown that vitamin C helps stabilize collagen fibers and produce new collagen, while also restraining collagen disintegration and pigment damage.

Unfortunately, with age, the skin’s dermal layer becomes thinner and collagen is degraded progressively.  Therefore, by infusing vitamin C into your skin you can slow down the signs of aging by strengthening and stabilizing the collagen fibers and stimulating the creation of new collagen. Furthermore, vitamin C is an anti-inflammatory agent which counteracts various age-related inflammatory skin conditions.  Consequently, the use of vitamin C as part of your skin care promotes wound healing and reduces hyperpigmentation.

How Oxygen Facials Work

Oxygen facials are effective and popular facial skin care treatments that include several stages – skin cleansing, exfoliating, extraction of blackheads, oxygenation and infusion of active ingredients. They are specifically designed to nourish your skin and stimulate collagen regeneration, and are known as having many benefits, including healing acne and skin detoxification.

During treatment, highly concentrated molecules of oxygen are sprayed directly into the epidermis – the outermost layer of the skin. The boost to the amount of oxygen in the skin improves its circulation and its ability to regenerate. Skin rejuvenation vitamins and minerals, as well as essential nutrients, are infused into the oxygen that is applied to the skin during treatment.  The treatment leaves your skin hydrated, smooth, radiant and plump.

Oxygen facials that infuse vitamin C into the skin are very popular.  With the added infusion of vitamin C, the skin is able to restore its lost supply of vitamin C and begin to repair skin damage and rejuvenate itself.

Oxygen facials are used by many celebrities, including Madonna, Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell, to name but a few, who swear by them to keep their skin looking youthful and radiant.

NowMi Oxygen Facial with Pure Vitamin C

facial skin exfoliation with the NowMi device

The NowMi Pro facial treatment is unique since it enables you to enjoy all of the benefits of a professional spa oxygen facial in the comfort of your home (and at a fraction of the price).  Similar to a spa treatment, the facial treatment performs 4 actions- skin exfoliation, nourishment, oxygenation and protection.

The NowMi oxygen facial is different from traditional oxygenation treatments that oxygenate the skin from the outside. The NowMi treatment uses an effervescent tablet that contains pure vitamin C. When this tablet is combined with the NowMi lubricant gel it creates a chemical reaction that results in the formation of CO2 microbubbles on the skin’s surface. The body responds to the elevated levels of CO2 by sending oxygen rich blood to the area.  By doing so, it causes an oxygenation effect from within the skin. This reaction is known scientifically as the Bohr Effect.

Another important advantage of the NowMi Pro treatment is that the vitamin C tablet is sealed until use.  Many consumers are unaware of the fact that if vitamin C is exposed to air or water, it potency dramatically reduces, and its anti-aging effects virtually disappear.  So when you use the NowMi effervescent tablet you can be certain that you are getting the purest level of vitamin C for the best possible results.

Conclusion

There are many advantages to oxygen facials that infuse vitamin C into the skin.  Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that slows down the signs of aging and helps the skin revitalize itself.  Spa oxygen facials are an excellent way to infuse your skin with vitamin C.  Another and more novel approach is the NowMi treatment. The NowMi treatment uses pure vitamin C to achieve the best results and, unlike spa treatments, it  can be performed in the comfort of your home.

Oxygen Facial in the Summer

Traditional oxygen facial treatment
Traditional oxygen facial treatment.

The summer months are amazing- the days are longer, the sun shines, the weather is warm and many people take some time off for some quality rest and relaxation.  When it comes to your skin however, the summer can be the harshest period of all. If left unprotected, the skin can be exposed to high levels of UV rays which damage it and cause premature aging.  Also, the heat often dries the skin and causes it to be dehydrated.

Damaging effect of UV rays on the skin

In order to enjoy the best of all worlds- a great summer and great skin – all you need to do is to be more attentive to the needs of our skin.

First of all, wear sunscreen.  Buy yourself a shading hat and sunglasses and wear them when you are in the sun. You should also limit the amount of time you are in the sun at peak heat hours.  Skin oxygenation treatments are also incredibly effective in helping your skin during the summer months.

Why you should choose a skin oxygenation treatment in the summer

A facial skin oxygenation treatment in the summer is a great way to care for your skin.  The treatment infuses the skin with vitamins and minerals that help it repair from sun damage and also hydrates it.

Typically the facial skin oxygenation treatment involves several steps – skin cleansing, exfoliation, hydration and nourishment.  During the nourishment stage, a special machine is used to spray pressurized oxygen into the skin.  The oxygen elevates the oxygen levels within the skin’s cells and improves the oxygen flow from the subcutaneous capillaries to the surface of the skin.  This improved circulation rejuvenates the skin and slows down the aging of the skin. Typically, the oxygen is combined with vitamin, nutrient, botanical, and mineral extracts.  The oxygen helps these nourishing extracts to penetrate the skin cell’s and therefore dramatically improves their effectiveness.

Following the facial skin oxygenation treatment the skin feels plumper and fresher and has a youthful glow.   The treatment has become very popular and has been used by top celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Katie Perry, Megan Fox, Jennifer Anniston, Brad Pitt, Kate Moss, Nicole Kidman, Naomi Campbell, Justin Timberlake and Gwyneth Paltrow. Madonna is one of the biggest advocates of the treatment and is said to have a machine in every one of her properties.

Oxygen facial treatment- oxygen is infused into the skin

The NowMi Oxygenation treatment

The NowMi treatment takes the traditional facial skin oxygenation treatment to the next level.  Instead of infusing the skin with oxygen, the treatment stimulates the skin to oxygenate itself from within.  It does this by using a scientific principle called the Bohr effect.   The Bohr effect states when there is an excess of C02 (carbon dioxide) on the skin, the body responds by sending oxygenated blood cells to the area. So, during the NowMi treatment, when the effervescent tablet comes into contact with the lubricant gel, a chemical reaction occurs which produces a high concentration of C02 on the skin.  The body then responds and sends oxygen rich blood cells.  Once the area becomes highly oxygenated, the blood circulation improves, and the body optimally absorbs the healing vitamins.

And what vitamins we talking about? The NowMi treatment infuses the skin with pure vitamin C, vitamin E and hyaluronic acid.   Vitamin C and vitamin E are powerful antioxidants which help the skin protect itself from sun damage and the hyaluronic acid keeps the skin moisturized.

Here are some of the highlights of what they do:

  • Vitamin C – Vitamin C:  Research has shown that vitamin C plays a critical role in skin rejuvenation, protection and repair.  The vitamin aids in the creation of new collagen and helps the skin to look firmer, tighter and plumper.   It is also a potent antioxidant that neutralizes free radicals.  Free radicals are formed as a result of extrinsic factors such overexposure to UV rays or pollution and cause premature skin aging. Furthermore, the vitamin has anti-inflammatory properties and helps the skin to repair itself.
  • Vitamin E – Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that helps the skin to protect itself against pollution, stress, smoke, unhealthy food and more. The skin contains more vitamin E than any other nutrient, which emphasizes its key role in nourishing and protecting the skin. In addition to its anti-aging benefits, it hydrates the skin and reduces scars.
  • Hyaluronic acid: Hyaluronic acid is principally used to hydrate the skin and prevent it from drying out.  It helps the skin to maintain a supple appearance and reduces the formation of fine lines and wrinkles.  Several studies have shown that it also helps the skin to appear smoother.  Additionally, hyaluronic acid plays a role in wound healing as it signals the body to create more blood vessels in the treatment area.

The NowMi facial treatment involves 4 actions: skin exfoliation, nourishment, oxygenation and protection.  It also uses sonic energy which significantly increase the effectiveness of each action.   Best of all, the treatment takes only 5 minutes and you can carry it out at home!

Conclusion:

During the summer season you need to be extra careful with your skin so that it doesn’t get damaged by the sun UV light and heat.  Facial skin oxygenation treatments are a great solution since they hydrate the skin and help it protect itself from sun damage.  The NowMi treatment offers an advanced oxygenation treatment in which the skin is oxygenated ‘from within’.  As a result, the NowMi treatment delivers superior skin hydration, nourishment and protection results.

Oxygen facial for oily skin

Introduction:

Many people suffer from oily skin.  This often manifests itself in facial skin that looks shiny or greasy, has large pores and looks thick or rough.  Fortunately, there are many remedies to improve oily facial skin.  Foremost amongst them is an oxygen facial for oily skin which infuses the skin with active ingredients that reduce the amount of oil on the skin and give it a fresh and healthy look.

What causes oily skin?

Oily skin develops when the sebaceous glands overproduce a substance called Sebum. Sebum is an oily substance made up primarily of fats. Sebum is vital for the skin since it protects and hydrates it by “sealing” in moisture and preventing it from escaping the skin’s surface. However, if the body produces too much sebum this leads to oily skin which is more prone to pimples, acne, clogged pores and blackheads.

Genetics play a key factor in determining a person’s skin type and most likely the reason for your oily facial skin is genetic. However, there are other influencers such as hormonal changes or high-stress levels which can simulate the overproduction of sebum by the body.

Treatment of oily skin

The way to care for oily skin is to reduce the oil on your skin without causing dryness. If you are not careful and you dry your skin, your body will only produce more oil to compensate for the dryness. Therefore, you need to regularly remove oil from your skin but at the same time you need to ensure it is sufficiently moisturized.

Here are a few basic tips:

1. Regularly wash your face.  The most important thing you can do to reduce oil on your skin is to wash it regularly.  It is recommended to wash your face one or twice a day.  When washing your face avoid harsh detergents or soap that may irritate your skin.  Instead looks for gentle and natural soaps.

2. Use blotting papers.  Blotting papers can help you blot excess oil from your face and limit the shiny and greasy appearance.

3. Add moisture to your skin. It is very important to carefully select which moisturizer you choose.  Make sure to avoid products that damage/irritate your skin or make it oilier.  The right moisturizer should be oil free and one that will keep your skin moist.

4. Use facial masks. There are a variety of natural facial masks you can apply such as a clay mask, honey mask and oatmeal mask.

Oily skin and make up

One can be easily tempted to use heavy makeup to cover up the effects of oily skin.  Be careful which makeup you use so that you don’t make your condition worse.  If your facial oily skin acts up, refrain for a few days from using makeup, especially foundation.  When you choose your cosmetics, opt for water-based products vs. oil-based products and look for products with a “noncomedogenic” label which means that they are less likely to clog up your pores.

Oxygen Facials for Oily skin

Oxygen facials have established themselves as an excellent skin care treatment.  They are used by celebrities the world over and are hailed for their ability to revitalize and strengthen the skin.  Oxygen facial treatments include several steps – skin cleansing, exfoliating, extraction of blackheads, oxygenation and infusion of active ingredients.

When it comes to oily skin the treatment is excellent because the skin is deeply cleansed.  As discussed above this is a prerequisite for caring for oily skin.  The exfoliation also removes the outermost layer of the skin and deeply cleanses the pores (which often get clogged with oily skin). Most importantly, the skin is infused with therapeutic active ingredients which reduce its oiliness.  The effectiveness of these ingredients is significantly increased by the oxygenation of the skin.  The oxygen helps the cells to better absorb the ingredients and increases the blood flow in the treatment area.

The NowMi Pro treatment for oily skin

The NowMi Pro treatment enables you to enjoy all the benefits of a professional spa skin oxygenation treatment in the comfort of your own home.  Best of all, it costs a fraction of the price and takes only 5 minutes.

The NowMi Pro treatment includes 2 facial routines- a daily facial cleanse and a weekly facial skin care treatment.

The NowMi Pro daily facial helps you remove excess sebum from your facial skin.  The cleansing gel is very delicate and won’t dry out your skin.  Quite the opposite, it contains vitamins E, B3, B5 and Dead Sea minerals which deeply moisturize the facial skin.  The cleansing action is very thorough since the device uses Sonic energy.  The Sonic energy ensures that the cleansing gel penetrates and cleanses every pore and removes all excess sebum as well as dirt and makeup buildups.

The NowMi Pro weekly contains 4 action – skin exfoliation, nourishment, skin oxygenation and protection.

1. The exfoliation gently removes the outermost layer of the skin and clears away dead cells, excess oil, dirt etc. Following the exfoliating the skin is clean and the pores are open.

2.  In the nourishing stage, the skin is infused with vitamins C, E and hyaluronic acid.  Vitamin C and E are powerful antioxidants that prevent the skin’s oil from oxidizing and “mutating into compounds like squalene peroxide which trigger even more oil production”.  Therefore they are critical in helping the skin balance its Sebum production. Also, Hyaluronic acid has been proven to be excellent for oily skin.  Hyaluronic acid provides your facial skin with all day hydration without causing irritation. It is also very lightweight and doesn’t clog up pores and also doesn’t produce a shine on the face.  Best of all, it doesn’t contain any ingredients that add more oil to your skin.

3. Unlike traditional skin oxygenation treatments that oxygenate the skin from the outside, the NowMi treatment causes the skin to oxygenate the facial skin from within. It does so by stimulating an effect called the Bohr effect. During the treatment, a C02 rich environment is formed on the surface of the skin.  The skin reacts to this by sending oxygen rich blood to the treatment area.  As a result, the skin oxygenates itself from within which optimizes the absorption of the active ingredients by the cells.

4. The protection action helps the skin guard against extrinsic factors which damage it.  Since the skin has renewed supplies of vitamin C, E and Hyaluronic acid it is able to protect itself from free radicals and other ailments that damage it and cause premature aging.

Oxygen Facials for Darker Skin Tones

the NowMi treatment oxygenates the skin from within
Oxygen facial

Oxygen facials are an excellent way of infusing your skin with revitalizing vitamins and minerals that help it look and feel its very best.  They are especially helpful for individuals with darker skin tones that suffer from skin conditions such as uneven pigmentation, acne and Pseudofolliculitis Barbae (PFB).  The reason is that the oxygen facial dramatically improves the penetration and absorption of the active ingredients, therefore enhancing the clinical outcomes.

Skin conditions in darker skin tones

For the most part, skin conditions are color blind and are unaffected by a person’s skin type or tone.  However, there are some skin conditions that affect people with darker skin tones more frequently or with greater severity.

The reason has to do with melanin in the skin.  Melanin is the pigment in the skin that determines the skin’s color.  In the skin there are cells called melanocytes which produce melanosomes –  packets containing melanin.  Research has shown that all people, regardless of their skin tone, have approximately the same quantity of melanocytes in their skin.  However, the difference is in the size and distribution of melanosomes- the larger and more dense they are, darker the skin will be.  As a result, individuals with darker skin tones are more prone to skin conditions relating to pigmentation.

1.  Pigmentation issues in darker skin tones: When the body produces too much pigment, known as hyperpigmentation, dark spots are formed on the skin. One type of hyperpigmentation is called post-inflammatory and it can be caused by a skin injury such as a cut, a scrape or a burn. Individuals with dark skin are more prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

Oppositely, in situations where color is lost from the pigment, known hypopigmentation, white patches form.  All individuals with dark skin more susceptible to both of these skin conditions.

2.  Eczema in darker skin tones:

Eczema is a skin condition characterized by a red rash that slowly develops and stays on the skin for a long time. Medically known as dermatitis, it can be caused by a wide variety of reasons such as allergies, skin irritation, dry skin, changes in temperature, stress and more. It can also develop as a result of an inherited tendency and is then called atopic dermatitis.

Research in the United States has shown that eczema is more likely to affect African American children than those from other racial backgrounds.

3. Acne in darker skin tones:

Acne is the most common type of skin condition and approximately 85% of individuals between the ages of 12-24 experience some form of acne.  Acne develops as a result of overproduction of oil in skin, which mixes with the bacteria in the pores.  As a result, the pores are blocked, the skin becomes inflamed, and bumps/cysts form on the skin’s surface.  In dark skinned people, active acne can lead to hyperpigmentation and an uneven skin tone.

4. Pseudofolliculitis Barbae (PFB) in darker skin tones

Pseudofolliculitis barbae (PFB), refers to a skin condition characterized by bumps under the surface of the skin caused by shaving. PFB stems from ingrown hairs and it affects Black and Hispanic people because of the unique shape of the hair follicle. If pressure is applied to the bumps, they can become inflated or infected. PFB can result scars, post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), and keloid formation.

Oxygen Facials for Darker Skin Tones

Oxygen facials have established themselves as effective beauty treatments that rejuvenates the skin and gives it a glowing and youthful look.  During treatment, a pressurized stream of highly-concentrated oxygen molecules is applied onto the epidermis- the outermost layer of the skin.  The oxygen boosts the amount of oxygen in the skin which improves its circulation and ability to regenerate.  During the treatment, serums containing skin rejuvenating vitamins and minerals are also infused into the skin and the oxygen facilitates enhanced absorption and efficacy of the serums.   Following treatment, the skin often feels more hydrated and radiant.

Skin Oxygenation with the NowMi Treatment

The NowMi treatment takes a novel approach to skin oxygenation.  Rather than applying oxygen externally, it stimulates the body to produce oxygen from “within the body” in the treatment area.   The oxygenation uses a scientific principal called the “Bohr Effect” which states that when there is a high concentration of C02 in the body, it responds by sending 02 rich blood to the area.  During the NowMi treatment, a C02 rich environment is formed on the skin’s surface as a result of a chemical reaction between the effervescent tablet and the nourishing gel.  The body then oxygenates the area from within.

During the NowMi treatment, the skin is infused with pure vitamin C, vitamin E and Hyaluronic acid. Vitamin C is known for its anti-pigmentary attributes.  Here is the technical definition from the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology:  “Vitamin C also plays a role as an antipigmentation agent. It interacts with copper ions at tyrosinase-active sites and inhibits the action of the enzyme tyrosinase—the main enzyme responsible for the conversion of tyrosine into melanin—thereby decreasing melanin formation. A clinical study examining the effect of a topical formulation containing 25-percent vitamin C and a chemical penetration enhancer reported a significant decrease in pigmentation caused by melasma after 16 weeks”. In more layman’s terms, the vitamin C helps curb the production of melanin and also prevents its from reaching the skin’s surface.  As a result it reduces hyperpigmentation.

Vitamin E is also a powerful antioxidant that helps minimize skin discoloration.  It helps to minimize and protect against sun damage, liver spots and acne scars.  It has also been shown to lighten dark patches and even out the skin’s tone.

In addition to the oxygenation effect, the NowMi Pro treatment uses sonic energy.  The NowMi Pro device emits 6,000 sonic pulsations per minute which increases the efficiency of the oxygenation effect and also helps the nutrients to penetrate deep into the skin, optimizing the cell’s abortion of the active ingredients.

Conclusion:

Dark skin tones are more sensitive to skin conditions involving the overproduction or underproduction of pigment.  Oxygen facials can help darker skin tones by infusing the skin with nourishing vitamins and minerals that protect against hyperpigmentation.  The NowMi treatment uses a novel technology to oxygenate the skin from within and infuses the skin with vitamin C and E which have anti-pigmentary qualities.

Exfoliating techniques for facial skin

Exfoliating techniques for facial skinThere are a variety of exfoliating techniques for facial skin.  The methods primarily divide into two categories- manual exfoliation and chemical exfoliation.  Both have the same goal – to rid the skin of dead cells that accumulate on the outermost layer of the skin known as the Stratum Corneum. By doing so, the skin looks and feels healthier, the pores are opened, and the skin can best absorb revitalizing vitamins and minerals.  Facial exfoliation is especially beneficial for more mature skin since it increases the cell turnover and helps slowdown the signs of aging.

It is very important to note that when it comes to exfoliation, often, less is more. The exfoliation should be a gentle action on your skin.  You don’t want to over-scrub and/or injure your skin.  Slight redness is normal, but if you are over scrubbing and causing long-term redness or inflammation, you need to change what you are doing.  Also, if you have sensitive skin you should use a very mild exfoliant so that you don’t damage it.

You also shouldn’t exfoliate your skin every day.  Once or twice a week is often enough.  The frequency of the exfoliation depends on your skin type, how sensitive it is and the type of exfoliating products you are using.

Manual Exfoliating Techniques for Facial Skin:

Manual or physical exfoliation uses a variety of aids to exfoliate the skin.  These can vary from a natural bristled brush to an exfoliating glove (also known as a loofah).  There are also scrub creams that contain small grains which exfoliate the skin.  If you choose such creams, make sure to look at the ingredients and choose a product with small grains.  Try to avoid large exfoliants like nut shells and fruit pits since they have a tendency to cause microscopic tears on the skin.  Many dermatologist recommend using jojoba beads or sugar.

You should take the following steps:

  1. Take your bristled brush, glove or scrub cream and move in gentle, small, circular strokes across your face.
  2. Make sure to keep your movements light and not to forcefully rub the skin.
  3. Rinse with lukewarm water (hot water may irritate your skin).
  4. Gently dry your face with a towel and apply a moisturizer. It is highly recommended to apply a moisturizer since the exfoliation action dries the skin.

Chemical Exfoliating Techniques for Facial Skin:

Chemical exfoliators dissolve dead cells on the skin.  In addition, they increase the cell’s turnover and help the skin look and feel smoother and brighter.  The two most popular chemicals are alpha-hydroxy acids and beta-hydroxy acids.

The alpha-hydroxy acids, known as AHAs, are extracted from natural substances. They are highly recommended for those with dry skin since they remove the ‘glue’ that binds the dead skin cells together.  Their major downfall is that they are water soluble and as such can’t penetrate deeply into the pores.

Beta-hydroxy Acids, BHAs, on the other hand are oil-soluble molecules.  They operate by breaking down the bonds between the cells and are able to deeply penetrate into the pores and skin.  Furthermore, BHAs have anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties which makes them ideal for individuals with active acne or very oily skin.

The two products can be combined and you can create a exfoliating routine that includes both AHAs and BHAs.

If you have sensitive skin, it is recommended to stick to more mild chemical exfoliants.  These are usually derived from fruits.  Recommended products include those with papain which is derived from the Papaya fruit, and bromelain, derived from Pineapple.  The fruit enzymes dissolve the keratin in the skin and only affect the Stratum Corneum.

Chemical exfoliation
Chemical exfoliation

You should take the following steps:

1. Clean your face.
2. Apply your chemical exfoliant- use small doses and apply gently.
3. If the product is also a peel, follow the instructions and leave it on your face for the recommended duration.
4. Rinse your face with lukewarm water and apply a moisturizer.

Facial Skin Exfoliation using the NowMi treatment:

The NowMi treatment offers a novel alternative for facial skin exfoliation.  The NowMi device uses a vitamin C rich effervescent tablet that gently exfoliates the face. During treatment, the tablet is combined with the NowMi cleansing gel.  This combination causes a chemical reaction that dissolves small granules in the tablet and forms a mild abrasive surface.

You should take the following steps:

  1. Insert the effervescent tablet in to the NowMi Pro device.
  2. Apply a small quantity of NowMi gel onto the tablet.
  3. Slowly and gently massage the effervescent tablet onto the skin. Keep adding cleansing gel as necessary.
  4. Rinse your skin with lukewarm water.

Conclusion:

There are many different exfoliating techniques for facial skin.  The two main methods are manual exfoliation and chemical exfoliation.  Both remove dead skin cells from the outermost layer of the skin.  The NowMi treatment offers a novel solution in which the skin is gently exfoliated using an effervescent tablet and it is automatically infused with nourishing vitamins and Dead Sea minerals.

The importance of facial skin cleansing

Facial skin cleansing with the NowMi Pro Daily facial skin cleansing is one of the most important things you can do to make sure your skin remains healthy and looks its very best.  Every day our skin is exposed to endless extrinsic factors which damage it and cause pre-mature aging.  These factors include exposure to pollution, cigarette smoke, bacteria and toxins which cause dirt and oil to build up on the skin and block its pores. Makeup also clogs up the pores and it is important to remove it thoroughly. Therefore, in order to enjoy healthy and glowing skin it is vital to have a good facial skin cleansing routine.

Levels of facial skin cleansing:

There are different levels of facial skin cleansing.  The first level is washing your face with water.  While this is better than not doing anything, its effectiveness is limited as water alone removes only about 65% of oil and debris from the skin’s surface.

The next level involves using a facial cleanser.  Good cleansers are able to deeply cleans the skin and clear away accumulated makeup, dirt and oil. They also remove dead cells from the skin’s surface.

One level up involves exfoliating the skin.  This can be done using exfoliating devices or the NowMi effervescent tablet.  The exfoliation doesn’t need to be performed every day.  If you are able to exfoliate your skin once a week that is more than enough. The exfoliation thoroughly removes dead skin cells and reveals a fresher skin layer. Following the exfoliation your skin will feel softer and smoother.

The benefits of facial skin cleansing:

  1. Unblocked pores: Effective facial skin cleansing removes all impurities from the skin and enables the pores to breath and function normally. If the pores are blocked, the skin looks dull and damaged and long-term blockage leads to premature aging.
  2. Unhindered flow of sebum: Sebum is oil produced by the body which prevents bacteria and other harmful agents from penetrating the skin. It is produced by small glands under the skin which use the hair follicles to transfer the oil to the skin’s surface. If the skin isn’t clean, the hair follicles can be blocked.  This leads to the trapping of sebum below the skin’s surface which often leads to acne. In addition, the skin surface is deprived of the protection it gets from the sebum and the skin is prone to dry patches and dullness.
  3. Hydrated skin: facial skin cleansing also ensures your skin is well hydrated. The cleansing helps the skin to maintain the right PH level (5.5) which is important for proper facial skin functioning. Dehydrated skin often feels dry and rough and is more prone to wrinkles.
  4. Improving the effectiveness of moisturizers: Skin that is not clean and has congested pores cannot absorb the active skin rejuvenation ingredients found in moisturizers. They simply have no way of penetrating the skin. Therefore, in order for moisturizers to work, the skin must be clean and the pores and follicles open.

Skin Cleansing with the NowMi Pro treatment:

The NowMi Pro treatment kit - DailyThe NowMi Pro  is a home-use device that enables you to perform two treatments- daily facial skin cleansing and weekly spa skin rejuvenation.  The daily facial skin cleansing includes a facial cleanser that deeply cleanses the skin and rids it of accumulated dirt, oil and makeup.  The effectiveness of the cleansing action is significantly improved because the NowMi Pro uses sonic energy.  The device emits 6,000 sonic pulses per minute which ensure that the facial cleansing gel penetrates and thoroughly cleans all of the pores.

The facial cleanser also contains vitamins E, B3, B4 and Dead Sea minerals which nourish and revitalize the skin.

  • Vitamin E: Vitamin E supports the skin in multiple ways. It has been shown to aid the immune system and help cells to regenerate.  It is also a potent antioxidant that protects the skin from free radicals which cause premature aging.  Furthermore, Vitamin E has anti-inflammatory properties that help the skin heal faster and prevents and or limits the formation of scars.
  • Vitamin B3: Vitamin B3 in its niacinamide form has multiple skin benefits including improving the skin’s surface structure, smoothing out its texture, and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.  It also prevents water loss and helps the skin to remain moist and supple.  Additionally, the vitamin is known to increase keratin- one of the major proteins in the skin which is responsible for providing it with strength and firmness.
  • Vitamin B5: Vitamin B5 has been shown to stabilize the skin’s barrier function and enables it to better retain water and remain hydrated.  The vitamin also plumps up the topmost layer of the skin which makes it look fuller and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.  Furthermore, it enhances the skin’s healing process and reduces acne-related blemishes.
  • Dead Sea Minerals: The Dead Sea is the lowest lake on earth.  It is unique since it is composed of 32% salt (compared to 3% in ordinary saltwater).  Its water and mud are rich in 21 healing minerals, 12 of which are not found in any other lake or sea).  The main minerals used for anti-aging and skin rejuvenation are:  zinc, sodium chloride and calcium.

In addition to the daily facial skin cleansing, the NowMi Pro enables you to perform weekly facial spa treatments in the comfort of your home.  The facial treatment includes 4 actions:  skin exfoliation, nourishment, oxygenation and protection. The skin exfoliation gently removes the dead skin cells from the outermost surface of the skin and further cleanses the skin.

Best of all, unlike complicated facial skin cleansing routines, the NowMi treatment takes only 5 minutes and you can carry it out at home.

Conclusion:

Regular facial skin cleansing is very important if you want to maintain healthy younger looking skin. The cleansing removes makeup, dirt and oil that accumulate on the skin and damage it.  The NowMi Pro device is an excellent solution that enables you to perform deep facial skin cleansing on a daily basis and to exfoliate the skin as part of the weekly facial spa treatment.

Facial Skin Lightening

The NowMi oxygen facial treatment reduces unwanted pigmentationFacial skin lightening refers to treatments that even out the skin’s tone and give it a homogeneous and clear look.  This is done primarily by reducing and/or eliminating blemishes on the skin that cause dark spots.  Facial skin lightening is different from skin whitening since it doesn’t involve any bleaching of the skin.

So where do dark spots come from?  They are a result of something called hyperpigmentation.  Hyperpigmentation refers to the accumulation of melanin in the skin.  Melanin is the brown pigment that produces normal skin color. When the body produces an excess amount of melanin, the deposits form brown patches on the skin.  Hyperpigmentation is extremely common and affects individuals of all ethnicities and all ages.

Hyperpigmentation can result from genetics or hormonal changes, but most commonly it is caused by overexposure to the sun’s damaging UV rays and heat.  The sun triggers the production of melanin and causes existing pigmentation to darken and it also stimulates the production of new pigmentation.  Heat triggers inflammation and the body responds to the heat by increasing the production of melanin.  Therefore, it is highly recommended to protect your skin from the sun and avoid staying too long in the heat.

While hyperpigmentation doesn’t pose a medical concern, the patches of melanin cause the skin tone to be uneven.   Fortunately, there are many aesthetic facial skin lightening treatments that curb the production of melanin and reduce/eliminate existing melanin deposits.  As a result, the skin looks clearer, lighter and more radiant.

How Facial Skin Lightening treatments work:

The skin is composed of different layers. One of the deeper layers of the Epidermis is called the Basal layer. In the Basal layer, skin cells are formed, and some of the cells migrate to form the outer layer of the skin.  The Basal layer also contains cells called melanocytes.  Melanocytes are responsible for transporting melanosomes – cells that contain melanin.  The Melanocytes therefore set the skin tone of each individual.  Within the melanocyte cell is an enzyme called tyrosinase which is responsible for the production of melanin.  When the tyrosinase enzymes create an excessive amount of melanin, hyperpigmentation forms.

In order to limit hyperpigmentation, many facial skin lightening products have been developed which inhibit tyrosinase and stop it from producing excessive quantities of melanin. These products are popular not only among people who want to reduce existing hyperpigmentation but also as a preventative measure to limit future hyperpigmentation.

Effective facial skin lightening treatments reduce/ eliminate unwanted pigmentation such as freckles, age spots, liver spots and Melasma.  Melasma spots are large dark patches that are predominately caused by sun damage, but can also be caused by hormonal changes. Skin lightening treatments can also treat dark spots caused by acne (once the acne subsides, dark spots sometimes appear).

Ingredients used for facial skin lightening

Some of the common ingredients used to lighten the skin are:

  • Hydroquinone
  • Vitamin C
  • Kojic Acid
  • Arbutin

Hydroquinone is a steroid based medication that has been frequently used to treat skin pigmentation.  The advantage of Hydroquinone is that it effectively limits the number of melanocytes in the skin and thus curbs the production of melanin.  However, the safety of Hydroquinone has come into question and its use has been banned by the European Community for cosmetic use and the FDA announced in 2006 that it could potentially cause cancer.

Fortunately, there are a myriad of natural solution for facial skin lightening. Primary among them is vitamin C!

Vitamin C is a powerful anti-oxidant which plays a critical role in combatting hyperpigmentation. Vitamin C helps to inhibit the production of the tyrosinase enzyme and therefore prevents the production of melanin. Also, it lightens pigmentation without affecting normal skin.

Kojic Acid is an additional and natural alternative to treat hyperpigmentation.  Kojic acid is produced from fermented fungi and it inhibits the over production of melanin in highly pigmented skin. Kojic acid is a widely used ingredient for facial skin lightening.

Arbutin is a completely natural solution that acts like hydroquinone.  It inactivates the tyrosinase enzymes and therefore the production of melanin. It has been shown to effectively lighten and brighten the skin tone as well as correct hyperpigmentation such as age spots, melasma and freckles.

The NowMi treatment for facial skin lightening

Skin lightening after the NowMi vitamin C oxygen facial treatment
A significant decrease in skin pigmentation following the NowMi treatment

The NowMi treatment is an effective solution that quickly and safely lightens the skin.  Firstly, during treatment the facial skin is exfoliated.  The exfoliation gets rid of dead skin cells but also removes darkened skin cells in the outermost layer of the skin.  As a result, it lightens hyperpigmentation.  Secondly, during the NowMi vitamin C oxygen facial treatment, the skin is infused with 50% concentration of pure vitamin C.  As mentioned above, vitamin C curbs the production of melanin and thus the creation of pigmentation and also evens out and lightens the existing skin tone.  Vitamin C is also a potent anti-oxidant which helps the skin protect itself from UV rays and thus slows down the appearance of pigmentation.

The NowMi Pro oxygen facial treatment also includes a daily cleansing routine that includes vitamin B3.  This vitamin has been showed to prevent the melanin from migrating to the upper layer of the skin.

Conclusion:

Facial skin lightening is a sought-after treatment for individuals with hyperpigmentation.  Fortunately, there are many natural treatments that reduce unwanted pigmentation and help individuals gain a clearer and lighter complexion.  The NowMi vitamin C oxygen facial treatment is one such alternative.  It infuses the skin with highly concentrated vitamin C that curbs the production of pigmentation and clears away unwanted blemishes.
