What is Dry Skin?

Dry skin is characterized by a lack of the appropriate amount of water in the most superficial layer of the skin, the epidermis. The epidermis is normally composed of fat and protein which help prevent skin dehydration. When there’s a deficiency in proteins and/or fat the skin moisture evaporates more easily. As one ages the amounts of natural skin oils and lubricants diminishes, causing dryness in areas such as the face, arms, hands, and particularly lower legs.

Symptoms and Causes of Dry Skin

Dry skin is usually a temporary condition that is related to age, health, and environmental factors.
